We wait a long time for warm weather to arrive in my local area, and then it only hangs around for a couple of months.
June, July and August are when we hope for blue skies, sunshine and high temperatures.
There have been years when the entire summer was chilly and wet. Most of the time, we can expect temperatures in the mid to high eighties with quite a bit of humidity. Because of the unpredictability of the weather and short summers, there’s no reason to spend a fortune on a central cooling system. Instead, I’ve invested in window air conditioner for the bedrooms. The cooling units cost less than $200 and are lightweight, compact and effective. They are the ideal solution to our local weather. The portable air conditioner easily maintains a perfectly cool temperature in the various bedrooms. No matter how hot and sticky it gets outside, we enjoy comfortable sleeping conditions. I like that the air conditioner makes just enough noise to drown out exterior noises. I don’t get disturbed by traffic sounds, barking dogs or early morning birds. The air conditioner also keeps the air circulating and filtering. It traps contaminants such as dust, dander and pollen, providing a cleaner and healthier space. I appreciate the air conditioner so much that I tend to install it as soon as the snow melts. I then leave it in place until well into the fall season. I sleep so much better with the air conditioner running that I’d rather huddle under heavy blankets that remove it from the window.
