She said the cooling system was what was really malfunctioning, causing cool air to come out of the air vents
We all have loved ones in our lives that are elderly and we care deeply for. We do everything in our power to make sure they are comfortable with the temperature control set at a warm temperature. When I was at a nursing home, I learned that a maintained heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system is extremely important. Last year was our fifth year of having the same gas furnace at the nursing home. Up until then, the heating serviceman had only come to check on our gas furnace once. We were never too anxious about the gas furnace or cooling systems because they had never presented any problems for us. One cool evening, the furnace temperature control was set pretty high to keep the gas furnace running for the elderly folks there, but a few hours later it was noticed that the gas furnace had never turned on! Some of the elderly were complaining that the gas furnace was making peculiar noises and some were questioning why the cooling system was running. The workers at the home suddenly went to every vent feeling chilly air coming out of them. We could also hear the gas furnace making peculiar ticking noises. We called the heating and air conditioning supplier and told them it was an emergency. The HVAC serviceman was on at the home within minutes to see what was wrong with the heater. She said the cooling system was what was really malfunctioning, causing cool air to come out of the air vents. The HVAC serviceman fixed the cooling system and set the cooling system back in the right order. To our joy, the fix only took an hour and we were able to turn the furnace back on!
